Getting a Referral
You may be eligible for up to 10 medicare rebated sessions with a psychologist per calendar year.

If you’re looking to access Medicare rebates for psychology sessions, you’ll need a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP. It’s a simple process designed to make mental health support more accessible and affordable.
What Is a Mental Health Care Plan?
A Mental Health Care Plan is a referral document prepared by your GP that allows you to access rebates for sessions with a registered psychologist. With a valid plan, Medicare will reimburse part of the cost for up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year.
At Mind Profile Psychology, our fee per standard session is $180, and the current Medicare rebate is $96.65 per session—leaving you an out-of-pocket cost of $83.35.
How to Get a Mental Health Care Plan
Step 1 – Book a GP Appointment
Make a long consultation appointment with your general practitioner. Let reception know that the purpose is to discuss your mental health and request a Mental Health Care Plan.
Step 2 – Discuss Your Concerns
Your GP will ask about how you’ve been feeling and what you’re experiencing. This might include questions about your mood, sleep, stress levels, relationships, and any other concerns.
Step 3 – Get Your Plan & Referral
If eligible, your GP will create a Mental Health Care Plan and issue a referral to a psychologist.
✅ Please ask your GP to make the referral out to Mind Profile Psychology, 1/45 Albert Street, Ingleburn NSW 2565
This ensures we can process your Medicare rebates without delay.A referral should also include:
- The referring GPs full details including their provider number
- The diagnosis and presenting issues you are dealing with
Please note that a valid referral must be provided prior to paid sessions in order for us to be able to process your rebate.
Important Notes
You do not need a referral for our free 30-minute introductory session.
You can choose your psychologist—your GP doesn’t have to decide for you.
Any sessions you’ve had with another psychologist earlier in the year will count toward your 10 rebated sessions.
